SIX SPINS · Daily NBA Puzzle

How to Play Six Spins

Six Spins is a free daily NBA puzzle — think of it as Wordle for basketball. Spin six random all-time rosters, steal one rating from a star on each, and build a 99 OVR GOAT in about a minute a day.

The goal

Build the best NBA player you can. You have six ability slots to fill, and six spins to fill them. Each spin drops you on a random all-time NBA team-year — the ’96 Bulls, the ’17 Warriors, the ’01 Lakers — and you steal exactly one ability from one player on that roster. Fill all six and your picks combine into an overall rating (OVR).

The rules, step by step

  1. Spin. You land on a random all-time NBA roster. Every playable team-year from the 1960s to today is in the pool.
  2. Steal. Choose one player and take one of their six ability ratings. You see each player’s real stat line to guide the pick.
  3. Fill six slots. Each ability can only be filled once, so once you take Shooting you need the other five from later spins.
  4. Reroll (twice). Don’t like the board? You get one team reroll and one year reroll per game to swing to a different roster.
  5. Score. Your six ratings combine into a 40–99 OVR. Six near-elite picks build a 99 OVR GOAT.

The six abilities

Every player is rated 55–99 in each ability by a fixed formula built from real box-score and advanced stats plus recorded accolades — the same math for every player-season in NBA history.

Strategy tips

Take the outlier, not the star. A role player who’s elite at one thing (a lockdown defender, a rebounding specialist) often gives a higher single rating than a well-rounded superstar.

Save your rerolls. A weak board early is fine — hold your rerolls for a spin where every player is mediocre at the ability you still need.

Mind the empty slots. Late in the game you’re forced to fill whatever’s left, so don’t leave a hard ability (like Clutch or Playmaking) for the final, random board.

Challenge a friend

Every game gives you a challenge link that replays your exact board — the same six spins and the same rosters. Send it and your friend plays a head-to-head against your score, trying to beat your OVR. It’s the fastest way to settle who’s the better GM.

Frequently asked questions

Is Six Spins like Wordle?

Yes — it’s a daily puzzle in the spirit of Wordle, but for NBA fans. One new puzzle a day, about a minute to play, and a spoiler-free grid of colored squares to share. Instead of guessing a word, you build the best NBA player you can.

What are the six abilities?

Shooting, Scoring, Playmaking, Defense, Rebounding, and Clutch. You steal one ability from one player per spin.

How is the OVR calculated?

Your six stolen ratings combine into a 2K-style overall on a curve, so a 99 OVR takes six near-elite picks. Most strong games land in the low 90s; a perfect run of six 99s is the GOAT.

Can I play more than once a day?

Yes. There’s one daily puzzle everyone shares, plus Unlimited mode for endless new boards.

Is it free?

Completely free — no download, no sign-up. Just open the site and play.
